About us
Moving city in your twenties is easy. Making friends afterwards is not. Social Sport exists so that you can turn up alone on a Tuesday, play something, and leave with plans.
Every session is drop-in. No squad to join, no season to commit to, no kit to buy. We run weekly casual and coached events, plus a New Sport Every Week through the summer, and almost everyone comes on their own the first time.
We work with Cambridge City Council, Oxford City Council and local venues to keep prices low, and most sessions finish at a café or a pub for whoever fancies it.
The issue
Life feels like it is getting increasingly consumed by social media and AI. Meeting new people in person is harder than ever — especially when you have just moved somewhere new.
Often our best option is the pub. Great once in a while, but not every time we need our social fix.
And the healthy options that do exist — organised clubs and leagues — can feel inauthentic, too competitive or cliquey, missing the fun and casual element entirely.
Our solution? Social and casual sport
We built a space where young professionals can meet and socialise whenever they like, playing casual sport at any level.
Sessions are on-demand and drop-in with zero commitment, built around your schedule. After many of them — especially at weekends — we head to a café or restaurant together.
There are three types of session depending on what you are after: casual, coached and our "New Sport Every Week" (NSEW), which runs over the summer.
Why socialise through sport?
- Meet other young professionals in real life — no screens, no alcohol
- Be active and have fun
- Play sport whatever your level
Our mission
Our mission is to make sport as accessible as possible and turn it into a genuinely inclusive way for everyone to connect — with an emphasis on young professionals settling somewhere new.
In countries like the USA, Australia, New Zealand, UAE and South Africa, regular sports participation is embedded in everyday life. We want to build that same culture here.
Who, when and why was Social Sport created?
It is obvious how difficult it is for young professionals to meet new people in a way that doesn't feel forced or unhealthy. So we asked: why not build an all-ability community around sport that makes it easier? So we did.
