  • Skill Development: Opportunities to improve your game in a supportive environment. The event lead will ensure you play on a court with other players at your level. Equally, if you'd like to take it easy or push yourself feel free to jump on a court with whoever you like.

📘 Basic Rules of Table Tennis

Before jumping straight in it is always helpful to know the basic rules of table tennis:

  • Scoring: Officially matches are best of 5 or best of 7 sets. Each set is first to 11, where you must win by 2. We often switch opponents after 1 set to keep the opponents fresh and games fun!
  • Serving: Each player/doubles partnership has two services, before their opponent serves. Serving rules vary depending on singles or doubles: Singles: Can serve from anywhere on your side, with the ball able to land anywhere on their side. Doubles: Serve must go diagonally from the right half of the server's court to the right half of the receiver's side.
  • Faults: Faults include when the ball bounces more than once on either side of the table, the ball fails to make it to the opponents side of the table, the ball fails to touch the table after crossing the set without being hit by the opponent, or any player touches the net.

For a comprehensive overview, see Table Tennis England's Rules and How to play guide or view this video. If you have any questions about the rules please reach out to the session lead.
