Volleyball Cambridge

Join us once per week for a fun and friendly casual volleyball session! Our sessions are designed to be inclusive and enjoyable for all abilities.

Event Details

• 🕒 When: Every Sunday, 3–4 pm
• 📍 Where: Cambridge Regional College Sports Centre, Kings Hedges Rd, Milton, Cambridge CB4 2QT, United Kingdom
• 🛠️ Equipment: All equipment is provided including the net, court and balls.
• Other: Free parking.

🎯 What to Expect

Our sessions focus on:

• Socialising: Meet new people and enjoy the community while building into the session with an easy ~10 minute warmup consisting of rallies.
• Casual Play: Friendly 4-6 a side games up to 25. Normally we get through three in the time.
• Skill Development: Opportunities to improve your game in a supportive environment. The event lead will ensure the teams are mixed ability. If you have never player before or haven't played in a while just let the event lead know and they will take you through the basics.

📘 Basic Rules of Volleyball

Before jumping straight in it is always helpful to know the basic rules of volleyball:

• Scoring: Games are played to 25. If both teams end up on 24 then play continues until a team wins by two points. We normally play best of three games.
• Serving: The server must start behind the baseline and throw the ball vertically in the air before striking it with the heel of their hand. You can also (we normally recommend for first timers) serve underarm whilst holding the ball in your opposite hand. First timers are allowed a second serve if the first one does not quite go to plan!
• Faults: Includes failing to serve or hit the ball over the net, playing the ball outside the court on your opponents side, the ball landing on the floor, not "striking"/catching the ball, deliberately touching the net, more than three people touching the ball in your team during a play, touching the ball twice consecutively in a play, blocking a serve, or playing the ball directly over the net from a serve.

📝 How to Sign Up

Joining is easy:

• Online sign-up: Visit our homepage and click "join" on an event you like. For volleyball in Cambridge simply join one of the events at the top of this page.
• Payment: Secure your spot by completing the online payment process through Stripe. Memberships will be coming soon. 
• Confirmation: You'll receive a confirmation email with session details and a link to the WhatsApp group chat.
• WhatsApp: After you've joined you will be emailed a link to join our WhatsApp groups. Feel free to pop any questions you may have in these.

Note: Limited spots available to ensure quality playtime for all participants.

🧍 Who Can Join?

Our sessions are open to:

• Relaxed players: Players of all levels looking for a chill, judgement free environment to play in.
• Beginners: New to volleyball? We'll guide you through the basics.
• Intermediate: Looking to refine your skills? Join us for slightly more competitive yet friendly games.

All abilities are welcome, please note you must be at least 18 years old to attend.
